Potato Champion

I had seen this cart and I will admit I pictured baked potatoes. Don’t ask me why.  After looking for suggestions on where to get good Poutine, Potato Champion came up…a few times.

What is Poutine you ask? A traditional Canadian comfort food consisting of piping hot fries, a brown (beef or veggie) gravy, and white cheddar cheese curds.

My son really wanted some poutine. Me? No way, that stuffs gross. My thought was if I could get it at a food cart, I could eat else where. The menu at Potato Champion is nothing like I envisioned.  It was fries with all types of toppings, including PB&J.  Don’t believe me, check out their entire menu here.

I grab my eats and get my son a sandwich and an order of Poutine. Of course when I saw it, I was kind of intrigued. After my first bite I thought it was pretty good. I dipped in a few more times, until my son finally told me to stop. It was at that point that I realized I had not ordered one that was big enough to share. Dang! The cheese curds were really good, not what I was expecting and the gravy was perfect and not too much.

So Potato Champion, you did it. You made me like Poutine. Yes, I will come again and yes I will get a bigger order next time. Next time I will also order the PB & J Fries.  Sounds weird, but if Killer Burger can do a Peanut Butter Pickle Bacon Burger, Potato Champion can do PB & J Fries.

How about you? Do you like Poutine?

  • Atmosphere at this cart pod is great. They have covered seating, and open seating. It’s set up to eat there all year round. There are quite a few carts to choose from too.
  • Pricing for the Poutine was great, $4 for a small and it was pretty good sized.
  • Service was good.
  • Potato Champion is located on Hawthorne and 12th
