Burrasca is a newcomer as of Summer ’13. I was actually able to attend their Launch Party. I saw it announced and decided to go all within about an hours time. My reasoning is that I like to support the new guys. Plus this guy had quite the write up. He moved from Italy to Portland to open a food cart. You can read more about it here. The whole story and menu just caught my attention immediately.
I was excited to see they had a good turn out for their party. We ordered the Gnudi, which was the spinach & ricotta gnocchi in a tomato sauce. The dish was divine. I love gnocchi, and this was very good. It was a beautiful dark green from the spinach and very tender with great flavor. The tomato sauce was really good. I’m pretty picky about my marinara sauces, but I have found a few that make me happy. This one definitely made that list. I wish they would have given us a piece of bread or two to get it up all up off the plate. I may have been able to order it, but don’t remember seeing it.
On this opening day the service was a little slow. I think that is to be expected, so please order, then grab a beer and just sit back and relax. Like any restaurant they are trying to work out all the kinks, but the food was worth the wait. She came out several times to check up on us, and offer us appetizers as we waited. (Because of the launch party they also had appetizers around to try.) I appreciated that they were checking in with us and letting us know our food was on it’s way.
She was also passing around these goodies as part of the party. Nice little dessert.
We will be back to try more for sure. I just saw them post on their Facebook page about upcoming menu items… Fresh tagliatelle or pappardelle with ragu or wild boar sauce, farro with butternut squash and mushrooms, eventually a hearty ribollita. Pretty much all that caught my attention.
- Atmosphere is very homey at this pod. All the carts face in and create quite a gathering space. There was lot of covered seating here too.
- Pricing was really reasonable.
- Service was great and I expect it to only get better as they get into a groove.
- They did have some drinks there and there is also a Captured By Porches cart there with about 6 taps.
- Burrasca is located off of 28th and Ankeny.
