Just trying to get a taste of what Portland has to offer
6320 SW Capitol Highway
Almost 2 years ago I had a post about a fabulous food cart called Gaufre Gourmet. This food cart was, and still is, cranking out some pretty awesome Liege waffles in Downtown Portland. But the story doesn’t end there. This is another great story of a food cart that grew up and into something fantastic. For those of you that want that leisurely sit down meal with your waffle, check out Gigi’s Cafe.
You know me and my benedicts, well Gigi’s enticed me with a weekend special of Duck Egg Benedict with Duck Bacon. I know it sounds crazy, but [Read more…]
This place is as sweet as every single picture you have seen. I have read that there is quite a line at this place, so we got there very early on a Saturday morning and didn’t have much of a wait, which was perfect. The staff was super helpful in helping us make decisions too, which you all know I love. They know what’s good right?
410 SW Broadway
This was a last minute decision as I always forget about some of these great downtown restaurants. I’m really glad we remembered this place because our breakfast was exceptional. I also want to go on the record and let you know that there were Eggs Benedicts on the menu, but I did not get them. They looked good, but I am trying to not be so predictable. Instead I barely stepped it up a notch [Read more…]

Pono Farms South Kitchen
Japanese comfort food. That’s what Pono Farms Soul Kitchen says about themselves. They have a farm in Central Oregon where they raise beef and pork. They choose specific breeds and even feed their pigs squash. They have it all dialed in, as far as flavor goes. But as stated they are also a Japanese restaurant, so yes there is seafood and sashimi as well. Deciding to try this for brunch made for quite an adventure. I even told my husband we could check out the menu before we made any decisions about staying. After seeing Eggs Benedict, Corned Beef Hash, Burrito, Biscuits & gravy, and French Toast we decided to give it a go.
I’m not sure how busy they are during brunch normally, but we [Read more…]
Seriously don’t know how it has taken me so long to discover this place, but I will tell you right now it’s a favorite. I had my mind made up before I even got there. I wanted the Green Bean sandwich. But the menu!!! It’s crazy! The options of goodness roll off the board making you feel like you should order 2 sandwiches each. We managed to contain ourselves, well kind of.

Thanks to all your awesome input I ended up at Interurban’s weekend brunch. It’s always a gamble when you go to bar for brunch, especially when you are greeted with, “What will you be drinking? I’m guessing something boozy since this is a bar?” I don’t think we disappointed her too much when we said tea and coffee. Nonetheless we looked over the menu briefly before making some of the most excellent decisions.
I, of course, got the Eggs Bennies and my husband got the Campfire Skillet with smoked trout. The prices were so reasonable and she said that his wasn’t huge, so we went ahead and tagged on the [Read more…]

I had been to Urban Farmer before and I had enjoyed the burger on the house made English Muffin. It was then that I learned that they also serve their Eggs Benedict on the same house made English Muffins. Only problem is somewhere in my long list of places to try I had forgotten this bit of info until a reader reminded me.
I ordered the Tails and Trotters Ham Eggs Benedict and our server suggested I also try [Read more…]

I had seen that Ned Ludd was serving brunch, but it’s on Sunday mornings. Not the most convenient for us, so when the opportunity presented itself we jumped on it. We showed up in late August. The weather was beautiful. Not hot, and most definitely not cold. We sat outside all by ourselves while the crowds kept going in. The inside is incredible and the atmosphere is quite enjoyable, so I get wanting to be inside, but the outside felt really good as well. No complaints, we loved having space to ourselves. The Hazel Room
I’ve been to the Hazel Room for tea. Well, actually tea and coffee cocktails. The sign kind of woos you in. When we were there they told us they had an incredible breakfast and we needed to come back for it. So we did….
We were pouring over the menu when our severer told us we needed to order the Breakfast Burger, which is pictured above. We also wanted to try a hash, so we ordered the Chorizo and Sweet Pepper Hash. The Breakfast Burger is huge. HUGE! We could have easily split it and been happy. It’s one messy breakfast burger and hard to eat, but so good you [Read more…]

Grain & Gristle
We have tried to get into Grain & Gristle a few times. Each time we show up there seems to be a wait, and we never feel like waiting it out. Finally we got smart and showed up at like 2 in the afternoon. Score! Nearly had the place to ourselves AND you could order breakfast or lunch.
As we were trying to decide which to order they came out and told us about the bagel plate. Well that sounded amazing! So we ordered it. [Read more…]

City State Diner
I had never really heard much about this place, but when we were at Navarre for breakfast one day I looked down and saw this crowd, waiting to be seated, and we discovered it was City State Diner. I figured I should see what all the fuss was about. The beauty of this place is that they are open on weekdays early, so we took advantage of that over the weekend crowd. We didn’t have a wait, we just walked right in. [Read more…]
We had been for dinner at Old Salt Marketplace and we were wowed. When we saw that they were starting to offer breakfast, we knew we needed to get there.
There were no Eggs Benedicts on the menu, but I saw plenty of things I would like to try. Since our visit I did see they have added Eggs Benedicts, so we will be back. My husband got a special hash and I got the smoke trout omelet. Before they brought out our food we thought we would at least try something small to start the meal off. So we opted for [Read more…]

Rae’s Lakeview Lounge
We stopped in here for breakfast because I saw that they had quite a great menu for under $10 and back in April I did a Cheap Eats series and that’s how it got on my radar. Here is what I knew of the place. First and foremost there is no lake and no view, I’m still questioning if there is even a Rae that works here. The other thing I knew is that this was going to be more maybe bar like and maybe even diner food (which I’m not a huge fan of) but we decided not to hold any of those things against this so called “Rae” and check it out anyways. Back in October I wrote a post 9 Breakfast Places I’m Excited About. It has taken me up until this last weekend to hit all the places on my list. My very last place was Navarre, and after we dined there my thought was, “Why did we wait so long?” I think this was one of my most favorite dining experiences and I think more restaurants should do this.
First off they have self serve coffee and tea at the counter, but everything else is full service. We love this because my husband powers through coffee and we often spend our time trying to chase someone down for a refill, plus I like my tea hot and I become high maintenance with asking that they pour out the cold water and add all new hot water. After she showed us where our coffee and tea was she laid down our menu and our order sheet. We must have looked confused because [Read more…]

This is another place that I had eaten dinner at, but I had never done breakfast. Once I remembered they were offering breakfast I quickly add them to 9 Breakfast Places I Am Excited About. The location is great, the space is great, all I needed to find out now was if the breakfast was great too. [Read more…]

Dinner at this place is fabulous, so when I heard they were serving brunch on Sunday I knew it would be good, but I needed to find out for sure. I did a little Facebook stalking and found that they do have Eggs Benedict so I was set. I always look over the menu, you know, just in case. He did say that they had cinnamon rolls right out of the oven. [Read more…]

Trinket was another place I have had my eye on for quite some time. Even as I write this they are still fairly new, having just opened early September. The menu, although small, intrigued me. Quite a few savory dishes and a few sweet dishes too. Plus the weekend specials thrown in to mix it up a bit.
As we entered we were greeted by a very charming space with antlers as a chandelier and dark wood throughout. The space is really small, but very inviting. This used to be home to the [Read more…]

This hidden gem will not stay hidden for long. Things are going to start getting crazy, so do yourself a favor and get on over there while there are still seats available. I will say this so you can skip the whole review and just take in the pics. It was off the charts fabulous, one of the bests breakfasts we have had in a long time. It’s not [Read more…]

This place caught our eye one day when we were out. It sits down in a little driveway, so it’s kind of tucked back. Yet the sign up front lets you know it’s there. We were there on a beautiful November morning and there were people sitting out on the patio, some under heaters, and some just bundled up and all of them enjoying themselves.
When breakfast menus contain both both hashes and eggs benedicts, we know this place is for us. For those of you that like the sweet dishes, they also have french toast on the menu, but it’s always changing with seasons as to what flavor is. The day we were there it was Gingerbread French Toast. We went with friends, so it was fun to see 4 different entrees. I have to say, we all had very different experiences this day. Read on, you will see what I mean. [Read more…]

Milo City Cafe
I am crossing places off my breakfast list. You know my 9 Breakfast places I’m Excited About list. Just last week I also took Roost off my list. The problem is I take them off my breakfast list, but then find something on their dinner menu, so it’s like an endless list.
All that to say, as I keep working through my list, we finally made it to Milo City Cafe. We heard that there is often a line during the weekend, so we went in early. We got there just before 9:00 on a Saturday and there were still plenty of seats to choose from. If we have a choice, and we did, we always like to sit at the counters so we can watch all the action. Roost was on my list of 9 Breakfast Places I’m Excited About, so you can imagine how excited I was when we finally decided to try it. For the fun of it we grabbed a few adventuresome friends to join us. We told them, we really had no idea what we were in for, we just knew it was going to be great.
We made it in just in time to get breakfast. They closed at 2pm and we got there at 1pm. They said our timing was perfect as it had been a busy morning. From what I’ve read, I kind of assumed that would have been the case. We quickly grabbed a seat and began to peruse the menu. Here’s the thing you need to know about Roost; [Read more…]

Tasty n Alder
Yes Tasty n Alder has been on my list. This place, like Tasty n Sons, is crazy popular and I have never really wanted to wait for a table, even though I knew it was going to be good. We rolled the dice and went down on a weekday morning and you know what? No line and lots of tables. I even suggested a table I wanted next to the window and they were happy to let us do that.
Having been to Tasty n Sons just recently we knew that their Chocolate potato donuts were really good. That was our dinner dessert there, but today, they were about to become our breakfast appetizer. [Read more…]
I was asked recently what places were on my list. Well, my whole entire list is like 70+ places long, but my breakfast list is a little shorter. I am such a nerd when it comes to looking for places to eat. I read reviews, I have my Breakfast in Bridgetown book out for some guidance and I follow restaurants on Facebook. I like to think of it as research. So after digging, looking and drooling….I bring you my breakfast list:: [Read more…]

I am a huge fan of Verde Cocina. We first discovered them a few months ago, in the Pearl, and enjoyed their Happy Hour and some dinner. I just love that every dish is filled with veggies. The Egg Carton has to be one of my all time favorite Food Carts. I know there are a lot to choose from, but let me explain why. This is a family run food cart by Sarah and Tim. We have been several times and I agree, they have great customer service, like seriously, they come out and check on you and the food is fabulous. Not only that but your meals are served on real [Read more…]

I had been to this restaurant one other time when it was Fenouli. We had drinks outside and somehow I had never wandered inside. I was struck by how beautiful this place is. Old barn wood covers the high walls, chandaleirs hung in bird cages provide the lighting. Huge doors open up in the summer to let in the warm sun at it offers a view of Jamison park. The bar has bar stools that seem extra large and high giving a great view of the chefs cranking out some awesome creations. Yep, the atmosphere alone won me over.
Before we left I checked out the menu online and I was excited, to say the least to try this place, already making [Read more…]

We stumbled upon this place a few weeks back when we were out running around. We had already eaten, but we stopped anyways and checked out the menu and quickly put it on our list of places to visit.
We went for brunch, which is only offered on the weekends. This place was packed. We found a few seats up at the bar where you can watch the chefs do their thing. I always love that.

Last summer we made our way down for a breakfast out on the patio at Veritable Quandary, or as the locals call it, VQ. This place is so well done on the inside, but the patio is the place to be. When the sun is shining in Portland there is no place I would rather be, and I plan on enjoying that sunshine by eating outside every chance I can get.
Since last summer we have been thinking about our return trip, just waiting for the sun to finally come out, which it did for a few days.
Before I get into this review too much let me first say, we love this place, we will be back because of the food, but [Read more…]
