Just trying to get a taste of what Portland has to offer

I was fortunate enough to win a great prize from Ole Latte Coffee and that was gift certificates to some of the food carts downtown. I won a raffle that supported Pancreatic Cancer. Todd, from Ole Latte Coffee, is passionate about getting the word out about this disease and we loved supporting the cause.

We’ve been twice now and my review has only changed a little. I think even more highly of this place now than I did the first time. I was very impressed the first time, that’s why I came back.
For starters I love that they are open in the middle of the afternoon. Yep we showed up around 3ish the first time we went. The place was almost empty, which is how we scored the sushi counter, which is always our favorite. The hostess/server (who we have since learned is the owner) was super helpful. We aren’t seasoned sushi/sashimi eaters, but we do enjoy it. Because of that, it’s hard to know what to order. We are always very adventuresome as we know the few things we just don’t like. Don’t give me Sea Urchin, just don’t!
As we sat down we began to talk with our server and told her a few things that we liked and she began [Read more…]

This was a last minute decision as I always forget about some of these great downtown restaurants. I’m really glad we remembered this place because our breakfast was exceptional. I also want to go on the record and let you know that there were Eggs Benedicts on the menu, but I did not get them. They looked good, but I am trying to not be so predictable. Instead I barely stepped it up a notch [Read more…]

I had been to Urban Farmer before and I had enjoyed the burger on the house made English Muffin. It was then that I learned that they also serve their Eggs Benedict on the same house made English Muffins. Only problem is somewhere in my long list of places to try I had forgotten this bit of info until a reader reminded me.
I ordered the Tails and Trotters Ham Eggs Benedict and our server suggested I also try [Read more…]

I am taking the month of April and I am doing a Cheap Eats Series. I am starting the month off with Grassa.
I have kind of heard mixed reviews on this place so we entered cautiously. Thought we would at least check them out and see what they had to offer and hope for the best. We just so happen to go during an off time, kind of an early dinner. Ok, it was really early, I guess we are preparing for retirement with our 4:30 dinner. It gave us an opportunity to talk with one of the guys there. As you walk in you order at what looks like a hostess desk then you take a seat.
I ordered the Carbonara, not because it came with an egg, but mostly that was the reason, I love eggs on pasta. I also ordered it because it had pork belly in it. My husband got the Mezze Rigatoni or the Sunday Ragu. We also ordered a salad to share while we waited for our pasta. My husband let me pick whatever salad I wanted, then pretty much turned it over when he realized it had roasted sweet potatoes in it. Pretty strategic on my part, wouldn’t ya say? [Read more…]

Little Bird Bistro
I have been to Le Pigeon and loved it, so I wanted to try Little Bird to see how the two compared. I also had my eye on the burger that has been written up a ton. I know, I’m a sucker for a good burger. It’s sometimes the one thing that stops me from ordering other things off the menu. That can be good or bad. I have discovered some good burgers out there for sure, but probably missed out on something else good.
I don’t know what waits are like at this place. What I do know is that a great time to come is [Read more…]

Tasty n Alder
Yes Tasty n Alder has been on my list. This place, like Tasty n Sons, is crazy popular and I have never really wanted to wait for a table, even though I knew it was going to be good. We rolled the dice and went down on a weekday morning and you know what? No line and lots of tables. I even suggested a table I wanted next to the window and they were happy to let us do that.
Having been to Tasty n Sons just recently we knew that their Chocolate potato donuts were really good. That was our dinner dessert there, but today, they were about to become our breakfast appetizer. [Read more…]

When I got an invited to see Chicago at the Keller Auditorium I knew a Happy Hour at Bistro Marquee was in order to start the night off right. Being moms, we weren’t able to get there super early and we were greeted with a warning (which I really appreciated) that they would try and get us out in time for the show, but since we cut it so close it would be tough. Fair enough, we decided to take our chances. (Everyone else after us was told no food orders if they were going to the show, as there would be no time. Please let me say it one more time, this was not rude, it was them being realistic and it was very much appreciated.)
I won’t lie, it really did push us to the last minute in getting our food. I am very glad we did gamble, [Read more…]
This place changed ownership quite some time ago and it has been on my list of places to revisit. I was enjoying a girls day and we were out during Happy Hour, so we checked the menu and became instantly excited.
My friend saw that they had Croque Monsier, and she was excited to try it. There were a few things that I had no idea what they were, so as always, I ask and can’t wait for descriptions. If you haven’t guessed I just love food and I love great presentation and great preparation.
Our server finally makes her way over to us and asks us about any drinks. The Happy Hour drinks are pretty limited, so we just order what we wanted.
We begin to ask her about certain dishes. We ask her what the Croque Monsier is. She says to us [Read more…]

I am not a huge breakfast person, but my husband is, and lately we have been hitting a fair amount of breakfast places and I am starting to enjoy it.
Let me tell you what it is I really enjoy though. At home I make eggs, bacon or sausage and toast. So if I go out it needs to be something I won’t take the time to make and special, especially since I have to pay a pretty penny for it.
Today I actually talked my husband into going out to breakfast by suggesting we go to Veritable Quandary. Just so you know, they only serve breakfast on the weekends. As we were walking away someone that was going to to work there suggested we try Bijou Cafe.
Heck we had already paid for parking so we might has well try something, and anything new is always on my list.
We made our way over to Bijou Cafe. It’s a cute little shop on the corner. [Read more…]
