Batter Griddle and Drinkery
Just trying to get a taste of what Portland has to offer
3971 N Williams Ave
We ordered the wrap and the bowl. Falafel… something that I have tried numerous times and each time I’m walk away thinking “that was just ok.” The owner of Chickpeadx contacted me right after they opened. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t in a hurry because I’m not a huge fan. They are now located inside The Zipper, which is great place by the way. I knew there would be other [Read more…]

One time I tried an Acai bowl in Southern California. It was a fond memory involving my good friend, waves by the ocean and a new experience, but I had no idea what I was eating, I just knew it was good. There were a few places in Portland that were doing them, but no places that were just acai bowls. Well that has finally changed. Portland has it’s very own Carioca Bowls.
I had the chance to sit down with both owners. It was such a treat. And I really mean that when I say that because I got to learn about them, what drove them to open a place in Portland, what the acai berry is and it’s benefits, how they are implementing yoga into the space and I literally got a treat!!
Here is a little bit about what I learned….. [Read more…]

I can’t tell you how many times I have walked past this place and said
“That’s on my list!”
So you can imagine how funny it was to sit outside and watch people walk by and say
“We need to go here.”
The menu is so incredibly different that I just kept walking past it time and time again. But not this day. I told my husband this would be a stretch, but we were going to give this place a shot. Luckily for us we had the best server EVER. He loved his job, he loved the food there and wanted you to love it just as much as he did.
He basically told us what each dish was like, including the ingredients, since many are not common to us. He described how they would be presented and also suggested some we needed to try, plus his personal favorites. But it didn’t stop there. Once the [Read more…]
I promise you have I not disappeared off the face of the earth. I spent April EatingMyWayThru Erope then May was spent picking up my son in Colorado and dropping off my daughter in S.California and meeting with the in laws in N. California. If you don’t see much here make sure you check out my Instagram account because I’m almost always posting over there and even on my Facebook page. Lately we have been hitting some of our favorite spots too.
But all that to say, I’m back to reviews, so here we go………
Different places get put on my list for different reasons. This one is obviously for the beer, but I was also intrigued by their concept to [Read more…]

Pono Farms South Kitchen
Japanese comfort food. That’s what Pono Farms Soul Kitchen says about themselves. They have a farm in Central Oregon where they raise beef and pork. They choose specific breeds and even feed their pigs squash. They have it all dialed in, as far as flavor goes. But as stated they are also a Japanese restaurant, so yes there is seafood and sashimi as well. Deciding to try this for brunch made for quite an adventure. I even told my husband we could check out the menu before we made any decisions about staying. After seeing Eggs Benedict, Corned Beef Hash, Burrito, Biscuits & gravy, and French Toast we decided to give it a go.
I’m not sure how busy they are during brunch normally, but we [Read more…]
If you have come off the Fremont bridge and looked to your left as you go onto Kerby street you can’t help but see this huge brewery and it’s sign. Also you will see this beer all over town on taps and at bottle shops. Ecliptic is brewing some great stuff and making their mark in Portland for sure.
We had been to try their beer, but never to eat. We initially didn’t go to eat because the truth is many breweries don’t have amazing food and we wanted amazing food the night we went out. As we were sitting there enjoying our beer flight we kept seeing this food come out that looked pretty spectacular. The burger especially.

We started the meal out with a pop tart. I won’t lie, I was never a fan of pop tarts, but nonetheless I was transported back to Saturday morning and Scooby Doo as I dug into this thing. It was incredibly authentic. I love that pop tarts are starting to pop up around town. (See what I did there 🙂 Our whole meal was fantastic, but this was a very fun way to start the meal. Brunch appetizers? Does it get any better than that? [Read more…]

Thanks to all your awesome input I ended up at Interurban’s weekend brunch. It’s always a gamble when you go to bar for brunch, especially when you are greeted with, “What will you be drinking? I’m guessing something boozy since this is a bar?” I don’t think we disappointed her too much when we said tea and coffee. Nonetheless we looked over the menu briefly before making some of the most excellent decisions.
I, of course, got the Eggs Bennies and my husband got the Campfire Skillet with smoked trout. The prices were so reasonable and she said that his wasn’t huge, so we went ahead and tagged on the [Read more…]

I had seen that Ned Ludd was serving brunch, but it’s on Sunday mornings. Not the most convenient for us, so when the opportunity presented itself we jumped on it. We showed up in late August. The weather was beautiful. Not hot, and most definitely not cold. We sat outside all by ourselves while the crowds kept going in. The inside is incredible and the atmosphere is quite enjoyable, so I get wanting to be inside, but the outside felt really good as well. No complaints, we loved having space to ourselves. Thanks to all my Facebook and Twitter followers ordering at Bollywood was super easy. For those of you that missed it I asked what I should order and nearly every single person that responded said okra, which is kind of funny since it’s just a side dish and not actually an entree. I know to listen to suggestions, so okra made the list. There were several other things as well (as you will see) but having some guidance was sure nice since this is Indian Street Food. [Read more…]

Grain & Gristle
We have tried to get into Grain & Gristle a few times. Each time we show up there seems to be a wait, and we never feel like waiting it out. Finally we got smart and showed up at like 2 in the afternoon. Score! Nearly had the place to ourselves AND you could order breakfast or lunch.
As we were trying to decide which to order they came out and told us about the bagel plate. Well that sounded amazing! So we ordered it. [Read more…]

City State Diner
I had never really heard much about this place, but when we were at Navarre for breakfast one day I looked down and saw this crowd, waiting to be seated, and we discovered it was City State Diner. I figured I should see what all the fuss was about. The beauty of this place is that they are open on weekdays early, so we took advantage of that over the weekend crowd. We didn’t have a wait, we just walked right in. [Read more…]
We had been for dinner at Old Salt Marketplace and we were wowed. When we saw that they were starting to offer breakfast, we knew we needed to get there.
There were no Eggs Benedicts on the menu, but I saw plenty of things I would like to try. Since our visit I did see they have added Eggs Benedicts, so we will be back. My husband got a special hash and I got the smoke trout omelet. Before they brought out our food we thought we would at least try something small to start the meal off. So we opted for [Read more…]

P’s & Q’s Market
As I pointed this place out, my husband drove right on by. I made him turn around and head back. I had read great things about this place and I wanted to check it out even if it didn’t meet his “fancy” standards. Crazy guy, he should trust me by now. I should let you know that it doesn’t look bad and it’s not in a bad part of town, it’s more nondescript. That all changes once you walk in the door. This place is [Read more…]

Back in October I wrote a post 9 Breakfast Places I’m Excited About. It has taken me up until this last weekend to hit all the places on my list. My very last place was Navarre, and after we dined there my thought was, “Why did we wait so long?” I think this was one of my most favorite dining experiences and I think more restaurants should do this.
First off they have self serve coffee and tea at the counter, but everything else is full service. We love this because my husband powers through coffee and we often spend our time trying to chase someone down for a refill, plus I like my tea hot and I become high maintenance with asking that they pour out the cold water and add all new hot water. After she showed us where our coffee and tea was she laid down our menu and our order sheet. We must have looked confused because [Read more…]

Dinner at this place is fabulous, so when I heard they were serving brunch on Sunday I knew it would be good, but I needed to find out for sure. I did a little Facebook stalking and found that they do have Eggs Benedict so I was set. I always look over the menu, you know, just in case. He did say that they had cinnamon rolls right out of the oven. [Read more…]

What’s the Scoop?
On a cold and rainy winter day in Oregon, what’s better than visiting an ice cream shop? I mean seriously, what were we thinking? I guess it’s always a good time for ice cream, right?
I had caught wind of What’s the Scoop and learned of their creative way of making their ice cream. Let me save myself some time and just give it to you straight from their mouths.
It is a small batch ice cream shop featuring ice cream and sorbets made from scratch and frozen with liquid nitrogen, a process which allows our ice cream to be frozen much faster than with a traditional ice cream machine. The shorter freezing time translates into much smaller ice crystals and an extraordinary creaminess.
There are 2 things that stuck out to me when I was there, [Read more…]

When I began reading the description I was sold after I read “Wood Fired.”
I read the menu and I was pretty stoked about what they had to offer. So much so that I booked a company party there without visiting first. I know, pretty brave of me. But I had a few readers (thank you Dana) recommend this place, so I was very optimistic. [Read more…]
