Today was one of those days when I remembered why I love writing for EatingMyWayThruPortland. Every now and then I get to do some cool experiences and today was one of those days with one of those experiences. Keep in mind, you too can head down over to Smith Teamakers and learn all about their tea and get flights. [Read more…]
A little over a year ago I did a coffee tour with Lora from Third Wave Coffee Tours. It was so informational and a really fun way to see Portland and Drink Your Way Thru. When Lora let me know that she was now offering a Coffee & Donut tour to her list of tours I knew I needed to check it out. Even though I am still not a huge coffee drinker(but my husband is), Lora is slowly winning me over to some great coffee options. [Read more…]

If you are looking for a romantic place for dinner I would choose Jamison. This places is just beautiful and the food is spectacular. We have eaten breakfast here as well and really enjoyed it. This time we thought we would take advantage of their Happy Hour. Dinner is on the spendy side, but you can enjoy some of the same offerings for a fraction of the price during Happy Hour, so we did just that.
We have this problem where we see so many things that look fabulous so we just keep ordering. All that to say, we did end up with quite a few options, but we managed to finish most of it. Here is most of what we ordered. [Read more…]

We have been to Atalua for brunch…twice now and love it. Not just for the sweet amazing pastry that they are known for, we loved all the small plates that you get to share for breakfast. Since it was such a hit both times we just couldnt’ wait to get over for dinner.
For those of you that don’t know, Ataula is where you order lots of small plates. It’s best to go with a few friends, but if not (like us) be willing to try lots of stuff anyways. Chef Jose is from Barcelona and he brings the love of his food right here to Portland. When the menu comes out it will seem over whelming. I’ve decided that’s when you know you have really hit the jackpot of a place to eat. You can be guaranteed that you are about to dive into some food that is anything but Northwest Cuisine. Don’t get me wrong, I love my NW cuisine, but sometimes you need something different, special and creative. This is your spot.
We pulled 2 servers aside and asked them what their favorites were. Not only that, but the other thing that is special about this place is that Chef Jose [Read more…]

Rae’s Lakeview Lounge
We stopped in here for breakfast because I saw that they had quite a great menu for under $10 and back in April I did a Cheap Eats series and that’s how it got on my radar. Here is what I knew of the place. First and foremost there is no lake and no view, I’m still questioning if there is even a Rae that works here. The other thing I knew is that this was going to be more maybe bar like and maybe even diner food (which I’m not a huge fan of) but we decided not to hold any of those things against this so called “Rae” and check it out anyways. A year ago, when I went to Lardo, I discovered the Banh Mi. I began to notice that many places offered them and each had their own varieties or even specialties. When I asked you, my readers, where I should go for my next Banh Mi, Lela’s Bistro was on everyone’s mind. Since it came so well recommended I knew I needed to try it.
I love that Lela’s Bistro is located in an older house off of NW 23rd right across from the new St. Jack location. You walk up the wooden steps, onto the large porch and past the [Read more…]
I get emails often from people asking where they should go if they have just one day in Portland. They usually are looking for meals, coffee and activities, you know the usual. I would tend to drive all over town, but most people like to park once and enjoy what they can within walking distance or at least without driving across town. I am going to do my best to create a few Portland Day Trips (one will be all over town), but today I will show you how I would EatMyWayThru NW Portland and play a little too.
The beauty of NW Portland is it takes in some of downtown, The Pearl and [Read more…]

Happy Hour is always a treat for us. I love the idea of cheap eats, with great food. We usually never make it time to enjoy the acclaimed Happy Hour. On this day the only good thing that came out of my sprained ankle was my husband had to drive me to my meeting, with the agreement I would feed him first. Done!
I remember from years past these great little tacos at Oba! Since it had been so long since we had these, we decide to head back. It was a chilly, chilly night and we were welcomed by this warm, cozy bar. We went as far back as we could to avoid any bitter cold air. No hot toddy on this day, I wanted an [Read more…]

Olympic Provisions NW
We stumbled upon this place a few weeks back when we were out running around. We had already eaten, but we stopped anyways and checked out the menu and quickly put it on our list of places to visit.
We went for brunch, which is only offered on the weekends. This place was packed. We found a few seats up at the bar where you can watch the chefs do their thing. I always love that.
Because I am such a food nerd, [Read more…]
