I am so sorry it took me 5 years to get back to you.

This place is so stellar I can’t even believe we waited so long to go back. Do yourself a favor, book a reservation now, get in there and enjoy this place. You really don’t need to read any more of my review because I am just going to go off on how fantastic it was. But in the end I am going to share a secret, so maybe you should just try and stick with me.

We went because of Portland Dining Month (PDM), thanks for the nudge PDM. I loved this because they have the most menu items to choose from for PDM and there is no dessert. It’s a small plates, salad and entree. I loved that. I already knew I was getting the fried cauliflower with lemon creme fraiche, and the arancini. We asked her if there was anything we shouldn’t miss. She said we needed to get the meatballs. I don’t like meatballs, but I saw you could get a few on the Happy Hour menu so we splurged and added that one thing to our 3 course meal. The meatballs were amazing. I would order those and eat them as my entire meal and be very happy. Great flavor and the sauce was perfect. Not like a marinara, which is what I always picture.

I also ordered the spring salad with asparagus, radishes and snap peas. Fabulous! My husbands romaine salad with lemony anchovy dressing was big on flavor. I never order Caesar and I dug into this dish a few times.

For an entree I got the steak. I am not sure why this jumped out at me, because I don’t order steak too often, but this one sounded great. The whole thing was set atop a bed of greens and had crispy potatoes tossed in. The presentation was beautiful and the flavor was so good. They cooked the steak perfect and those potatoes were so flavorful. I am sure it had something to do with the wood fire, whatever it was, great little potatoes.

My husband got a pizza. I mean, wood fired pizza? How could you NOT order that? Again, perfectly cooked crust, great topping choices and wonderful flavor.
Between the cauliflower, spring salad and steak atop greens, I felt like this was a pretty healthy light meal, with tons of flavor. Don’t worry I had some pizza, I can’t be all healthy ya know.
Here’s the secret. We went because of the Portland Monthly Dining and the great options. Turns out they always have a 3 course meal on their menu for $29. Unless of course you choose to have pizza instead of an entree, then it’s just $25.
Firehouse was the 3rd of 4 stops on this night. Check out where else we went.
- Atmosphere was super cozy in this old firehouse turned restaurant. They have a whole wall that opens up to outside dining too.
- Pricing is pretty average. Three courses for $29 is not a bad deal for this high quality food with very nice size servings.
- Service was some of the best we have had. She checked on us often and really steered in the right direction for ordering food. Which is why I ordered steak, she highly recommended it.
- Firehouse is located in North Portland.
I’ve wanted to go to this place for years –I’m just rarely in that neighborhood. I need to do it because that food looks amazing.
