Little Bird Bistro
I have been to Le Pigeon and loved it, so I wanted to try Little Bird to see how the two compared. I also had my eye on the burger that has been written up a ton. I know, I’m a sucker for a good burger. It’s sometimes the one thing that stops me from ordering other things off the menu. That can be good or bad. I have discovered some good burgers out there for sure, but probably missed out on something else good.
I don’t know what waits are like at this place. What I do know is that a great time to come is Friday around 5pm. The place was empty, which was nice for taking it all in. This place is really cute. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was a chalkboard with the specials of the night including the oysters they had. On the list was Netart oysters. These are my favorite of all oysters because they don’t taste like salt water to me, they have their own flavor. You can read here on how we discovered these. It’s easy to tell the difference because Netarts are always large. Even though they were much larger than the others, they were still smaller than what we have experienced other times.
I loved that we were there during Happy Hour and we got to enjoy these at a discount price of just $1.75 each. I don’t have pics, but we enjoyed them so much we actually ordered more.
The other thing that was on the Happy Hour menu was their burger. It’s a $12 burger, but during Happy Hour you can get it for just $9. This burger is piled high with pickled onion, lettuce that was done up like a slaw. It had a great seasoning and I really liked this better than a leaf of lettuce and sauce on the bun. We all 3 commented on this and liked it. Plus it was good quality beef.
Our son was with us and he, of course, ordered the burger, but I saw the Macaroni Gratin (mac n cheese) on the menu and I figured if I got this I might be able to trade out a few bits. What was I thinking? The only bites were what he took of my Macaroni Gratin. Don’t worry, my husband shared his burger. The Macaroni Gratin had a slight bit of a tang to it and our server told us it was a sheep’s cheese they use in the mix. It was great, small, but great.
- Atmosphere is spectacular. It’s small, quaint, romantic and somewhat eclectic. They have a small upper seating area that overlooks the restaurant. It’s like the perfect date night place.
- Service as good.
- Pricing was pretty good. They had discounts for Happy Hour.
- They have wine, a few beers on tap and cocktails. All which have Happy Hour pricing.
- Little Bird is located downtown Portland on SW 6th Ave.
