Pono Farms South Kitchen
Japanese comfort food. That’s what Pono Farms Soul Kitchen says about themselves. They have a farm in Central Oregon where they raise beef and pork. They choose specific breeds and even feed their pigs squash. They have it all dialed in, as far as flavor goes. But as stated they are also a Japanese restaurant, so yes there is seafood and sashimi as well. Deciding to try this for brunch made for quite an adventure. I even told my husband we could check out the menu before we made any decisions about staying. After seeing Eggs Benedict, Corned Beef Hash, Burrito, Biscuits & gravy, and French Toast we decided to give it a go.
I’m not sure how busy they are during brunch normally, but we had the place nearly to ourselves since we were there about 45 minutes before they closed. It gave us plenty of time to check out the menu, ask questions and think through our options.

The Eggs Benedict has a smoked salmon which they did in house. It was fantastic. My husband was even sneaking bites and he doesn’t usually like the hollandaise sauce that comes on eggs bennies, but he was liking the salmon. The english muffin was extra crunchy and I liked that a lot.
My husband got the Corned Beef Hash. She warned us ahead of time that it wasn’t typical. They take the corned beef and mix it with something (I should have paid better attention) and make patties out of it and fry it. They serve that along side the home fries and cheesy grits. It was definitely different, yet so good. The cheesy grits were amazing. My husband is not a huge fan of grits, so I pretty much ate them all.

The location is great. It’s in the Hollywood district right next to the Hollywood theater. You could easily grab dinner or even a Happy Hour and then head over watch a movie at the theater.

- Atmosphere is very sleek and modern. It’s also very bright and open, which I loved especially since we were there on a gray day.
- Prices were $11 for Eggs Benedicts.
- Service was good. You do order at the counter, but then they keep your coffee full for you.
- They had great tea and coffee, but for dinner they have cocktails, wine, beer and of course Sake.
- Pono Farm Soul Kitchen is located in the Hollywood District.
I’ve only been there once for happy hour but really loved it. I didn’t know they do brunch. I’m going to have to check it out!
