Hi, I’m Amy, I am a lover of food and all things Portland, and there is a lot to love about the Portland Food Scene. I want to help you find the perfect meal in Portland, whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner or a sit down restaurant, food cart or special occasion. I want you to be satisfied and wanting to dive into more Portland food.

I started this blog in 2011. With new places opening up every single month I have learned that my job will never end, and I love it. If you are wondering what my favorites are you should check out my Favorites list, which I am always updating.
The best part about Portland is that there are so many restaurants that are locally owned. Those restaurants serve locally sourced food. They all have their very own unique twist on an item. Sometimes they are hits, sometimes they are misses. I have had both. I will try anything once, like Norwegian food, Chicken Liver Mousse and Spam cupcakes.

The 2 things I love to try and will try at nearly every place is Eggs Benedict (I consider myself a connoisseur) and Pork Chops or pork done any way. I am always looking for new, different and creative presentations. I think I found the best Pork Chop in Portland too.

I am always trying to find the hidden gem. With restaurants opening up every week it’s impossible to go to all the new ones. Plus the new ones get all the buzz, so I try hard to keep you up to date on new places through Facebook & Twitter. For my blog though, I will do hidden gems (like underground restaurants), even though I have been known to go to some of the new & talked about places.
It doesn’t stop there. Do you realize how many Breweries there are in the area? Tons! And I am always looking for great beer.
Portland also has a huge Food Cart Scene. HUGE! I have enjoyed diving into that. I walk away often surprised that I can get such a great meal for a fraction of the price, with top quality food and have it be better than some restaurants that we have visited.

So sit back and relax as I EatMyWayThruPortland. It’s a tough job, but someone got to do it, right?? If the need ever arises, feel free to get in touch with me here: amy @ eatingmywaythruportland (dot) com. I’d love to hear from you!
For those of you that must know. I play basketball 2-3 times a week. I also do spin, yoga and I love to hike. That’s how I keep eating all this food.
Disclosure :: When I go into restaurants I don’t want them to know I am there. Everyone takes pics of their food with their phones, and so do I. If I were to take in a big camera and spend time photographing the food, they might wonder. And to be completely honest, it’s kind of embarrassing.
I have no intentions of writing and publishing a book. I have no intentions of becoming a famous food critic. I am just gal that enjoys eating good food and I want to make sure you know where you can find some. If any of those things change, you will be the first to know. For now….I Eat
I was wondering if you had a chance to try Fire and Stone yet. They opened up near me a little over a month ago, and I just love their house made baked bread and their salami pizza. I was pleasantly surprised on my second visit to discover they have lamb now, its nice to see more than just another pizza place in the neighborhood. I love your blog and would love to hear your opinion on it! Also, since I’m new to wines, I have no idea how their wines compare to other places so maybe you can give me some tips! Excited to hear more from you!
-Lauren
I still have not been, but it’s on my list. As far as wine goes, I’m a beer drinker, so I don’t really have an answer for you. Thanks for following my blog and thanks for the recommendation. Can’t wait to try it.
I just discovered your blog. I’m glad to see I am not the only person who is slightly embarrassed when taking pictures of their food. Agree with your take on chains. Not sure why people go to chains when there is usually a cart nearby that is offering better food at a better price.
So glad you found me too. Yes, way too much food to eat in Portland to waste your time, calories and mostly money on chain restaurants.
I’m so glad I found your blog and that you update it regularly! I cannot imagine eating at any chain restaurant when there are SO many awesome places here. Looking forward to reading your reviews.
Hello! My husband and I are coming to Portland for a day or two next week, and I really want to go check out food carts. Where do you recommend going that would have the most and/or best options? We have a baby, so we figured food carts are the way to go for now, since he’s not great in restaurants 😉 Let me know what you think/recommend. Anything we CAN’T miss out on?
It’s probably too late but the Indian food cart on 5th and SW Washington is fantastic and dirt cheap.
It’s your friendly teller!!! 🙂
Your blog is wonderful! I’m looking forward to more reviews and I will definitely keep you updated on new places we try!
So glad you found me.
Hi,
I LOVE your blog. I have just moved to Portland from Sydney and its great reading sites like this to get the inside scoop on the best places to eat. I have been digging around trying to find somewhere out of Portland to go for lunch to celebrate my 30th with a few friends. Any suggestions? I am looking for somewhere not too far away but a place where we can eat outside and preferably has a nice view. Was thinking the wineries but cant seem to find any that meet this criteria. Would love to get your thoughts!
Thanks
Emily
Emily there are so many great places. My first thought is to send you to Hood River. I know it seems everyone here heads for the coast, but I love Hood River. Tons of great places to eat, tons of wineries and breweries. Just for you I will work to get my Celilo review up, because that place was so amazing. For the views 3 Rivers Grill at Hood River can’t be beat. You can sit outside and look at the Columbia River, see the kiteboarders and look at the hills on the Washington side. I reviewed it on this blog.
There is lots to see between Portland and Hood River too. It’s about an hour away and you will pass Multnomah Falls, but if you take the back way you will also see at least 5 more waterfalls along the way.
There are also some great wineries there, but not sure of the ones that also serve meals, if that’s what you mean. Many of the great restaurants serve some of the local wines though. We did a wine tasting there once and had access to at least 4-5 wineries. We didn’t make it to all of them.
Check out The Outdoorsy Side of Hood River and the Romantic Side of Hood River to get a better idea of what you can do there.
Great site! I also have a food review blog that may be of interest to you. I might live in Salem, but I’m down to go all over the state (and even out-of-state) to find great places to eat. Perhaps we can share links on our respective blogs? When you got time, check out http://www.foodreviews.aaronwakamatsu.com/ and let me know what you think.
In the meantime, you’ve given me several places to try for myself! Thanks!
-Aaron
Hey Amy- thanks for your nice blog post about us.. If you could send me an email about where to find decent teas and what you reccomend, i would appreciate it.. Also, I might email you when we have this special again.. We only have it about every 2 months, but it literally has groupies-
Blackened Pork Chops with Prawns, Andouille & Hollandaise-
Two quarter-pound pork chops blackened with Cajun spice and topped
with Cajun Black Tiger prawns, sliced Andouille sausage and
Hollandaise. Served with smashed Baby Yukon Gold potatoes, two eggs
cooked your way and fresh baked bread. Don’t forget Mother Teresa’s
Strawberry Freezer Jam..
Again thanks for the write up, love your blog..
Becky (Word of Mouth Bistro in Salem)
Yes Becky I will come back to Salem for that dish. Sounds absolutely amazing. You had me at Pork.
What is wrong with Burgerville? I am a chef and I eat there and I know what they use. The best Burger CHAIN there is!!!
How many chains have you eaten at say in Boston or NY? See my point is you are slamming chains yet I eat at a chain that like Baja that have no refers. So now there fresh daily salads, breads and food are what to you?
I think if you are so snobbish you do not look at ALL food sources then u do not understand food and the human.
A foodie does all food!!!!!
Ah Food man. I have tried many chains. For years we only ate at chains, so I can honestly say I do taste a difference, a big difference. If you have a restaurant that seats 40 or less people and one that seats 200+ I guarantee not everything is made to order at the 200+ restaurant. It can’t be, it’s impossible. Quite honestly I do not even like Portland City Grill. My food did not taste fresh last time.
I do like Burgerville, especially their Sweet Potato Fries. But to be completely honest their burger hits like a rock every.single.time. I wish it didn’t, because I agree with you, it’s pretty good going down.
Thanks for checking out my site. I would love to know where you are a chef at and come check out your place.
Friends do not let friends eat at chains.
I have that t-shirt!
