I promise you have I not disappeared off the face of the earth. I spent April EatingMyWayThru Erope then May was spent picking up my son in Colorado and dropping off my daughter in S.California and meeting with the in laws in N. California. If you don’t see much here make sure you check out my Instagram account because I’m almost always posting over there and even on my Facebook page. Lately we have been hitting some of our favorite spots too.
But all that to say, I’m back to reviews, so here we go………
Different places get put on my list for different reasons. This one is obviously for the beer, but I was also intrigued by their concept to [Read more…]

Maine Street Lobster
We finally made it to this food cart and I am so glad we did. The whole reason we stopped at Cartlandia on this day, was for this food cart. The Lobster Rolls are supposed to be the best on the west. I have even seen people from the East coast say that they are legit.
We started by ordering the Maine Lobster Roll (hot and buttery). One bite and I was convinced. The roll very tender, I was expecting something with a little more crunch, but I was glad it was so soft. These are loaded with lobster, but they are not huge sandwiches, so we had to try [Read more…]

Da Fat Boyz BBQ
BBQ joints are a dime a dozen. Not only that but we own a Traeger and I can crank out some pretty decent food, if I do say so myself. When I see another BBQ food cart I usually send in my son or my husband because they can’t get enough and I have had more than enough BBQ food. So sure enough on our most recent visit to Cartlandia my husband and my son both had their eye on this cart. My son loves the pulled pork sandwiches and the sides he offered looked fabulous. Unfortunately we were there on a 90+ degree day and a few sides weren’t offered because it just made his cart too hot. Not to worry [Read more…]

P’s & Q’s Market
As I pointed this place out, my husband drove right on by. I made him turn around and head back. I had read great things about this place and I wanted to check it out even if it didn’t meet his “fancy” standards. Crazy guy, he should trust me by now. I should let you know that it doesn’t look bad and it’s not in a bad part of town, it’s more nondescript. That all changes once you walk in the door. This place is [Read more…]

Cheese & Crack Snack Shop
I’m a sucker for presentation and it was photos of their presentation that won me over. I mean look at that! How impressive is that? And it’s part of my Cheap Eats series. That makes it even better. Cheese and Crack is a food cart gone brick and mortar. I never made it out to their cart even though I had intentions to get there. I do love that I was able to order drinks with my cheese plate, so maybe waiting wasn’t so bad after all.
I kind of wished I had a photo of their stuff ready and loaded so all I would have to do is say, “I want that”. Instead I fumbled through the menu trying to figure out what looked like what I had seen on Instagram. (I know I should have just stopped and searched right there.) I asked a few questions, but ultimately the decision was up to me. I won’t lie, I really like it when [Read more…]

Oso Market + Bar
Oso Market is another new comer to the Portland food scene. This place is a perfect candidate for my Cheap Eats series because this is a great place, with delicious food at an affordable price. If you think Cheap Eats can only happen at restaurants where you order at the counter or food carts (which are both fabulous places by the way), think again. Oso Market will show you how it’s done. Another thing that really caught my attention and made me really take notice was when they did a [Read more…]

Shut Up and Eat
Finally I made it to Shut Up and Eat. They post great pics and people really talk about this place, so I knew we needed to get there. I’m pretty sure it’s this place that shared a picture of a city bus stopping in front of their place, the driver got out, ordered a sandwich and then got back on the bus and drove away. (There is not stop here and apparently no place to park a bus.) A big plus too, is this place actually works really well for my Cheap Eats series and I’ll tell ya why. It’s priced really well, and the sandwiches are HUGE.
I really wanted to go for a breakfast sandwich because I heard they made their English Muffins in house. Luckily they serve the breakfast sandwiches all day. After a few questions and suggestions I settle on the [Read more…]

The Italian Market
The day we came we made sure we had our son in tow too. You see, I knew we would want to order more than 2 sandwiches. I had my eye on a few of them, but didn’t want to order more than we could handle. Like I would ever do that. This food cart has brought food from Philadelphia, but they didn’t just bring cheesesteaks. Nope, they brought all the other good stuff too. [Read more…]

Red Hills Market
I love this place. We have been a few times, but on this visit we brought friends who had never been before. When you talk about how amazing the food is and describe how it really is gourmet food, it is always a surprise when people enter and see that you order at the counter. This just adds to the mystic of the whole place. While you wait in line there is plenty to look at. They have books, and all kinds of local condiments, sauces, jams, salts, and whatever else you can think of. It”s kind of like playing I spy. Especially on this day because I was looking for [Read more…]

Bare Bones Cafe
I was told I needed to go down and try the breakfast sandwiches at Bare Bones Cafe. I grabbed a friend and we made our way over to check out these goodies. Once I was there I began to ask about the menu. It was then that I was told I also needed to try the Chorizo And Egg Breakfast Tacos with a lime sauce. Not knowing what to do, [Read more…]
SW 3rd and Stark
I don’t normally seek out sandwiches, mostly because it’s hard to impress me. I can make a pretty good sandwich at home, so I go after things that are either really different or something I would never think to make. Or they must have something special that makes me want to try them. For instance this first sandwich it was the bread that made me stop and take notice. [Read more…]

Certo has just recently opened, and yet I had somehow already heard about it. It’s another one of those places you read about, but aren’t quite sure where it’s at. It was quite a surprise to stumble upon it. As a matter of fact I stumbled upon a brand new food cart pod. Update: They have now moved to 23rd & Alberta, but there are still carts at 15th & Alberta. I have this new love of Banh Mi sandwiches. I have had them at Lardo and so I asked you, my readers, where else I could find one of these. I rememeber many saying I could get one at Double Dragon. At that point I added Double Dragon to my must try list, with the note “Banh Mi.”
One night as we were out with friends, we decided to try a new place. I threw out Double Dragon, and everyone agreed. I show up all excited to try their Banh Mi. What I didn’t know is that Double Dragon actually has a whole menu of different Banh Mi’s. I didn’t know what to do. [Read more…]

Fried Egg I’m In Love
Seriously this is the best name for a food cart. Especially since I LOVE fried eggs. I pretty much eat one every day, because I like my eggs. The only thing I could possibly like more than my own eggs, scrambles and frittatas is someone wowing me with a fried egg sandwich.
I asked the guy working which sandwich I should order. He said either the Yolko Ono or the Sriracha Mix-A-Lot. As I looked at the two I was leaning towards [Read more…]
I gathered some family members and met up with Aaron from Aaron’s Food Adventures. I figured if there were enough of us we could all sample & eat and eat & sample our way through Cartlandia, and that’s exactly what we did.
Aaron had been here several times so he was able to help give us some suggestions. I had read up on a few things and knew where I was headed. What the others would choose would be a total surprise. Just like it should be when you go to a food cart pod. [Read more…]

J Mo’s Sandwich Shack
I had met J Mo, the owner of J Mo’s Sandwich Shack, a few months back at this EVENT. (I did not eat the whole thing, but if I remember correctly, J Mo did). I had never visited his cart until today. I won’t lie, I was a little hesitant to eat there because [Read more…]
This is a roaming Food Cart
Update: This food cart now roams. Please take time to look them up and find them. You will see from this post where they once were.
I have had my eye on this food cart. I knew that they were settling down soon at Alberta and 23rd. The day they landed I showed up. Yes, I was THAT excited.
I started checking out their menu and began talking to the owner, Kimmy, who is a doll. Very personable and very much wants you to have great dining experience. After a few questions I knew I was going to have [Read more…]

I went to a Portland Food Adventure in February where I was completely surrounded by foodies, like from every side. We spent much of the time talking about different restaurants, which you know is an endless conversation with a city like Portland. Anyways, they began talking about Lardo and I said I had never been. I wasn’t sure if they wanted to take me to counseling, reprimand me on the spot or drive me there personally. Seriously, they were all shocked I had not been. I went home and immediately bumped it up on my list of places to eat.
Fast forward a few weeks and I am now reporting from the other side….I have now been to Lardo. I even ordered the sandwich they told me to order. I was scared to not listen to these people.
Here’s what I like about Lardo. [Read more…]

Rip City Grill
A few months back there was a Groupon offered for a ton of different food carts around town and I grabbed 2 of them. Today I cashed in on one of them at Rip City Grill.
The pictures of the steak sandwiches are what sold me, because I knew my husband would love them. The pictures do not lie. [Read more…]

Bunk Sandwiches has been written up many times. This place is a local sandwich shop that draws a big crowd and with that a big line.
The place is small, so if you are coming expecting to eat in, come early because the tables go quickly. If it’s sunny then grab it to go and find some place less hectic.
Bunk has been on my list for quite some time. You read about it and you have seen it on TLC’s Dine In, Diners and Drives. If you haven’t heard about it… never mind I can’t imagine anyone hasn’t heard about it. [Read more…]
